I’m sure you have plenty of questions about celebrant ceremonies and how they work. I have answered some of the most frequently asked questions below and would be very happy to answer any other questions you have – contact me to find out more.
What are your fees?
This is clearly one of the most frequently asked questions! So here we go:
- Initial consultation: Free of charge
- Weddings: £640
- Elopements (exclusive of Love Story): £480
- Funerals or memorials for adults: £320
- Funerals or memorials for babies, infants, children and adolescents pre their 16th birthday: Free of charge
- Funerals or memorials for pets: £160
- All other ceremonies: £160 – £640 (please contact to discuss)
If you would like me to stay on throughout the rest of your day, and perform the duties (with some changes to the norm) of Mistress of Ceremonies, for ANY event, I am more than happy to do so. This would be charged separately at the rate of £320.
Ceremonies, on average, take around 20 hours to complete, including an initial meeting, drafting, alterations, final approval and familiarisation. A full rehearsal at your venue, can be arranged separately, if required.
All fees are inclusive of 50 miles travel. Extra miles will incur a cost of 50p per mile. Train fares / overnight stays / other expenses will be discussed individually if needed.
Can a celebrant legally marry us?
Currently, Celebrants in England are unable to carry out the legal requirements of a wedding (which consist of a handful of pre-prescribed words, two signatures and two witness signatures). These still need to be done at the Register Office.
There is no need to exchange personal vows or rings at that time. It is purely an appointment to take care of the paperwork, which can be done at a time of your choosing, either before or after your dream ceremony.
Costs vary, but are minimal for a ‘2+2’ appointment, leaving you free to have your ceremony however, wherever and whenever you wish.
What elements can we include in our ceremony?
Another one of the most frequently asked questions is ‘how can I tailor my ceremony?’.
There are so many different elements which can be added to make sure you really express yourself, in whatever ceremony you are having. As a for instance, weddings can include ring warming, broom jumping, love charms, sharing shots or cocktails, unity rituals, and so many more!
You could have a traditional handfasting ceremony for weddings, couples or any family ceremonies, from start to finish. Or just add the incredibly meaningful hand-tying element to any style of ceremony.
I always have plenty of ideas and look forward to hearing yours too. I will craft your script around any elements you wish to include, and ensure the symbolism is brought to life.
Can you help with planning the rest of our wedding day (or other event)?
Oh yes indeedy!!
I have worked with some truly wonderful peeps, and would be more than happy to help you in your planning!
When planning a funeral or memorial , do I need to book you through a funeral director?
No. You are welcome to engage with me directly.
Most people choose to work with a funeral director after the death of a loved one, although it is not a legal requirement to do so. It is completely your choice whether to engage one, to help you cope in your time of loss, or to do something different.
If you do choose to work with a funeral director, then you or I will just let them know that you want to work with me as your Celebrant.
If you choose to do something different, are planning a memorial, or end of life celebration, then a funeral director does not need to be involved. We will just work together to create your perfect farewell.
Is there any financial help I can get for my child's funeral?
I will provide my services free of charge for babies, infants, children and adolescents pre their 16th birthday.
The Children’s Funeral Fund for England is a scheme to provide funding for fees charged. It applies to any burial or cremation of a child under the age of 18, or stillborn after 24 weeks of pregnancy. This fund is available to all families, regardless of income, and is not means tested. Burial and Cremation authorities and funeral directors will claim their fees directly from the central fund. More information can be found here.
You may also be eligible for further help if you are in receipt of certain benefits. More information can be found here.
The Child Funeral Charity also assist families financially, in England and Wales, who have to arrange a funeral for a baby or child aged 16 or under. More information can be found here.
Is there any financial help I can get for an adult funeral?
You may be eligible for a Funeral Expenses Payment (also called a Funeral Payment). This applies if you are in receipt of certain benefits and need help to pay for a funeral you’re arranging. More information can be found here.
